Let's learn history through the stories of people who lived it themselves.

The Institute of National Memory in Brno offers schools a unique opportunity to combine modern history lessons with authentic stories from people who lived through them.


The Silent Heroes exhibition in Brno 

Take your whole class on an exciting journey through 20th-century history. Using modern technology, students will immerse themselves in stories from World War II or the 1950s. You will learn about courageous individuals who stood up to totalitarian regimes despite the circumstances. It is possible to take courses on both eras. accompanying workshop or Lecturer workshop.

School groups should arrive 15 minutes before the start of their reserved program. There is a café on the ground floor of the building where light refreshments can be purchased.

Basic information 

  • Admission: CZK 140 per student, accompanying teachers free of charge   
  • lenght: 2 hour 
  • maximum capacity*: 30 students + 2 teacher 
  • věk: 12+
  • Warning: Not suitable for people with epilepsy or respiratory problems.
  • Unfortunately, the exhibition is not wheelchair accessible. 

*We are able to arrange visits for larger groups of students (e.g., two classes at once). For more information, please contact the exhibition operator.

Accompanying workshop to the exhibition 

If your school decides to visit the interactive exhibition with your students, you also have the option of participating in an accompanying program in the form of a workshop, which will be led by our instructor.

Basic information 

  • Admission: CZK 1,200/workshop  
  • lenght: 90 minut, Allow 4 hours for the exhibition visit. 
  • capacity: 30 students + 2 teachers 
  • age: 12
  • Workshop topics: Jews in the Protectorate (World War II era), When Freedom Breaks (1950s era)

Lecture workshops in the center of Brno 

The teaching programs include interactive methods such as working with comics, blackout poetry, listening to eyewitness accounts, watching animated documentaries, and discussing tense situations. Using these methods and our eyewitnesses, students are introduced to specific topics such as the Holocaust, human rights violations, and emigration. 

Basic information:

  • for elementary school pupils or high school students 
  • Capacity: class or group (10-30 participants) 
  • Duration: 90 minutes (allow 4 hours including a visit to the exhibition)
  • may also take place outside the Institute premises (e.g. during lessons)

Other educational programs of Memory of Nations 

Educational programs aim to bring modern history closer through personal experiences and memories of eyewitnesses processed in the Memory of Nations archive. These programs take place outside the premises of the Memory of Nations Institute (e.g., in classrooms/schools, outside of school hours, or as separate projects).
